Why Waist Size Matters

The more abdominal fat a person carries around the mid-section, the higher the chance of serious disease such as high blood pressure, heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

Those with apple body types are more at risk than those with pear-shaped bodies.

How To Measure Your Waist

Your correct weight for height is in part, determined by your waist size. To find out whether you are fit, your waist size (in inches) should be half of your height (in inches).

For example,if you are six feet tall, that is 72 inches. Therefore your waist size should be no more than 36 inches (half of 72).

The best way to measure your waist is to place the tape measure at the top of your belly button and suck in. Yes, I said suck in! It gets the muscle out of the way.
